"Day of Blood" sparks interest of Peninsula Clarion

Every year the Shire of Hrafnafjordr in Alaska's Kenai Peninsula meets at the "Day of Blood" event to select the shire's heavy weapons champion. This year Joseph Robertia, a reporter for the Peninsula Clarion investigated to discover what the SCA was all about.

Robertia writes, "For those not in the know, the SCA is a living history movement in which participants engage in activities that help them explore the culture, arts and sciences of ages past." He also discusses SCA combat: "The Day of Blood events will include numerous activities, including chivalric combat by competitors wearing replica metal or leather armor, and brandishing shields and replica weapons that while not deadly, still pack a wallop."
