Sinan, like his contemporary Michelangelo in the West, came to architecture from a military background and began with a pragmatic approach. However, he transformed the architecture design of his day from an assemblage of parts to a unified structure. The Selimiye mosque in Edirne, Turkey, generally considered his masterpiece, was completed when the architect was more than 80 years old.

Ottoman architect Koca Mi’mar Sinan Aga , usually referred to as Sinan, was born on April 15, 1489. His innovative approach was to transform the Ottoman civic and religious architecture of the Ottoman classical period.
