SCA members make ready for Santiago Pilgrimage

Medieval re-enactment is afoot in Drachenwald in the form of a plan to take part in the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela "using as medieval gear as possible," an endeavor in the footsteps of thousands of medieval pilgrims.

The pilgrimage is set to take place June 6-15, 2009 from Cebreiro to Santiago, Spain. Participants should expect to travel approximately 21 kilometers per day.

From the website:

Pilgrims generally travelled in groups for mutual protection. Broad hats protect them from the sun, the cloak to counter cold and rain, the satchel for food, the gourd for water and the staff for defence and support over rough ground.
