Psychic Diane Lloyd Hughes dates Newport ship at 1426. A psychic consultant who works with local police departments was allowed to spend some time with timbers recovered from the Newport medieval ship. Diane Lloyd Hughes says she could see a young, curly-haired boy scrubbing the deck and feels the ship should date somewhere around 1426. She also claims that the boy told her that the ship was used for nefarious purposes by a local earl and that there were connections with Bristol.

The psychic encounter was not endorsed by the Newport Council and was received with skepticism by archaeologists.
