What could be more romantic than getting married at the site of the legendary Romeo and Juliet
balcony scene? Nearly anything, if you are put off by star-crossed lovers parted by suicide, but Verona city officials are banking on the romantic appeal of the site for international weddings.
The venue is part of the city's plan to capitalize on Shakespeare's setting. "Verona is known worldwide as the city of love," said Daniele Polato, the city official who made the proposal. The rental price: US$1,280 for non-EU-citizens, not including the services of Father Lawrence.
