According to Spanish historian Alfonso Ensenat de Villalonga, Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy to Scottish shopkeepers, and was christened Peter Scotto.

This claim, as well as another that the New World was discovered in 1398, by Henry St Clair, Earl of Orkney, are debunked in a new book Secret Places, Hidden Sanctuaries by Gerald Warner.
