Debatable Lands Welcomes Alonzio and Tatyana as Baron and Baroness

King Henri of AEthelmearc has invested Alonzio of the Peacemakers and Tatyana Kushina as fifth Baron and Baroness of the Barony-Marche of the Debatable Lands. It was a cold but mostly sunny day in the Barony-Marche of the Debatable Lands on October 18, A.S. XXXVIII. Henri, Roi d'AEthelmearc, sat in state as Tofi Kerthjalfadsson and Genevieve du Vent Argent, who had sat the Baronial thrones for the previous three and a half years, asked to be released from their oath of service, that they might return to their own home and stead. His Majesty, being wise and generous, released them and requested the coronets be returned. His Excellency Tofi removed the coronet from Her Excellency's head and returned it to His Majesty, then did the same with his own. His Majesty, pleased with the service Tofi and Genevieve had provided, then created them Baron and Baroness of the Court.

The populace of the Barony-Marche having spoken, and Her Excellency Dame Margaret Makafee, Baronial Seneschale, having confirmed that the election was held in accordance with the Laws of the Society, the Kingdom of AEthelmearc, and the Barony, His Majesty then called Alonzio of the Peacemakers and Tatyana Kushina called the Kushka before Him. Heeding the words of the populace of the Barony-Marche, His Majesty invested Alonzio and Tatyana as the fifth Baron and Baroness of the Barony-Marche of the Debatable Lands.

His Majesty's actions in this matter were met with overwhelming approval of the populace of the Barony-Marche. The rest of the day was spent in celebration.

Re: Wonderful article!

I didn't know there was a space limit for the headine or lead.

This was my first article, but I don't plan for it to be my last. In that interest, what are the space limitations!

Thank you for the kind words. This is a wonerful service you provide, and I am honored to be a part of it.

Title and Lead Limitations

There is no hard-and-fast rule, beyond the maximum size our database will handle (which is extremely large). What we try to do is to make the title very short, in a "newspaper style", and the lead is one sentence typically, or maybe two if they are very short. The lead is what appears on our newswire (the home page). Since there are a lot of stories there, we have to keep each lead short to prevent the page from being excessively long.

Don't worry too much about this stuff...it's a guideline, and our editors are happy to have the contributions. If we have to do a little editing, well, that's why we call ourselves "editors". [grin]

One thing you should do, though, is to go create yourself a personal login account. The username as you enter it (including upper/lower case) is how your stories will be credited on our wire. Use your SCA name, not your modern name, in the "first name" and "last name" spaces. Once you've set up your account, go to the "Profile..." page (linked from our main page whenever you're logged in) and set it up to automatically log you in with a cookie when you come to SCAtoday.net. That way, you know that your contributions will be properly credited.

If you get to where you are contributing frequently, you can have your account upgraded to "reporter" security privileges, which gives you a little more control over how your story is formatted and credited.

By all means, if any of this is confusing, we'd be glad to answer questions. You can send email to news@scatoday.net to reach the Managing News Editor, or to publisher@scatoday.net to reach me.

Thanks again for the story!

Wonderful article!

Nicely written, Your Lordship Cadell! Thank you very much for the contribution!

I didn't change a thing except to make the headline and lead a little shorter so they'd fit our newswire. The article is a very nice bit of writing, and we appreciate you letting us share it here.
