Kubb tournament draws interest to the Viking game

Kubb, "a modern imitation of an old Viking game," is a combination of chess, horseshoes and bowling. It was also the focus of the October 26 Kubb 2008 Championship of the Carolinas in Salisbury, NC. Brent Johnson of the Salisbury Post was there to catch the action.

Many of the participants were members of nearby SCA groups and dressed in Viking garb for the games. The Kubb tournament was co-sponsored by SAGA, a nonprofit organization that sponsors events such as ScanFest, a celebration of Scandinavian countries and Nordic culture. Six teams competed, with "Dark Lady Also" taking first place honors.
