Eighth-century minaret discovered in Iran

A team of Iranian archaeologists has discovered an eighth-century minaret in the country's northeastern city of Damqan. The architectural remains are the oldest yet discovered from the Tarikkhaneh Mosque.

Experts are excited about the find since the Mosque "is a unique structure that combines Arabic, Islamic and Sassanid architectural elements." The team has found that the building was restored and expanded in later centuries, but the minaret is the oldest yet discovered.
