Treasure Hunter Stumps British Museum

Rotherham Advertiser: A small, silver fragment discovered by British treasure hunter Jim Rickett has stumped experts at the British Museum. Jim Rickett is used to finding treasure with his metal detector. For over thirty years he has been unearthing artifacts near his home in Rotherham, England, but his latest find has archaeologists at the British Museum stumped. All agree that the small piece of silver with a dragon's head is Anglo Saxon and dates from the ninth century, but no one is certain what is is. Rickett believes the piece to be decorative, perhaps part of a brooch.

The silver fragment has been declared treasure and is in Rickett's keeping until the British Museum determines if it has historic value.
