[EAS] Carolingian Baronial Championships

In the name of Baron Jehan, all gentles are invited to attend the Archery and Thrown Weapons Competitions for the Barony of Carolingia on Saturday, July 19th, 2008 (rain date: Sunday, July 20th). During the day, the mighty archers and weapons throwers of Carolingia will compete to choose the best among them for the Baron's Champion.

The event will be on the Town Fields of Bedford, MA, located on Mudge Way (no street number).

Admission to the event is $5 per person, though children 10 and under are free. Non-SCA members will be charged an additional $3 per person. If you intend to compete for any of the honors this day, please read the information below on the competitions and register your intentions at the gate. There will also be space provided for fencers to who wish to practice their art.

Set-up for archery and thrown weapons will begin at 8:00am, and the site will open at 9am and close at 6pm. Assistance in setting up and breaking down the ranges is always welcome, and gentles arriving before 9am or remaining after 6pm are assumed to have volunteered. In addition, all marshals willing to assist in executing the tourneys should contact the autocrat, Eva, or Christoff.

No food will be provided at the event. Please ensure you have provisions with you, or make plans to obtain food from a Bedford-area merchant. On the way to the site from the highway, you will pass Denny's, McDonald's, Friendly's, Stop & Shop, Papa Gino's, Dunkin Donuts, CVS, and Boston Market. There is a playground and skate park next to the fields, but there will be no supervision provided for the playground or skate park.

Shade is limited, so gentles may wish to bring small a shade canopy for comfort.

Find your best route to Rt 95/128 in MA. You will be traveling to the area that is north of the Mass Pike and south of Rt 3 and Rt 495. From Rt 95/128, take exit 31B, Bedford/Rts 4 & 225. Continue towards Great Road, Bedford, and proceed approximately 2.8 miles, passing through 6 traffic lights, and take a left on Mudge Way. You are approaching Mudge Way when you pass the Bedford Common (on your left) and head up the hill. Mudge Way is not well marked, so look for a large white wooden sign on the left listing Town Hall, Police, Town Center, etc, on the corner of Mudge and Great Road. If you reach the split for Rts 64 and 4, you have gone a block too far. A short distance down Mudge Way, you will see the fields on your left. Parking is immediately available adjacent to the fields.

There is ample parking near the fields, near the library, and near the high school. Additional parking is available on the other side of Town Hall.

The site is also accessible via the Rt 62/76 bus from Alewife Station.
