Medieval arts on display at Wick Avenue Festival

“'We give that learning back to the public by educating them. Then we encourage them to join us,' said Dirk Hermance, who was dressed in the loose-fitting clothing of a northern European merchant from the early 15th century." Hermance was speaking about the demo hosted by members of the Shire of Rivenvale recently in Youngstown, Ohio. Reporter Don Shilling of the Vindicator had the story. (photos)

The demo was part of the Wick Avenue Festival, the brainchild of the Mahoning County Convention and Visitors Bureau in conjunction with Youngstown State University's Summer Festival of the Arts. Members of the SCA gave visitors a chance to join in the medieval dancing and to handle armor owned by the group.
