300 rare Jewish books returned to Israel from Iraq

300 rare Jewish books, confiscated from Iraq's Jewish community during the regime of Saddam Hussein, have been returned to Israel. The works included a 15th century commentary on the biblical Book of Job.

A vast number of books were confiscated by Americans after the overthrow of Saddam, but others fell into the hands of thieves, forcing concerned Jews to buy the books and smuggle them back to Israel. The collection of 300 also included a "volume of biblical prophets printed in Venice in 1617."
