13th century tower foundations found under Oxford mound

Workers on Oxford Castle's mound were surprised to discover the remains of a 13th century, 10-sided tower which once stood on the mound.
The foundations have been covered since the 1790s, and archaeologists were thrilled to find them still somewhat intact. Plans are to recover the foundations as soon as they have been documented. |
