Actor Paul Scofield dies at 86

The theatre and film world is mourning the death of British actor Paul Scofield, best known for his role as Sir Thomas More in the classic A Man for All Seasons. Scofield was 86 years old. Audrey Woods of the Associated Press wrote his obituary.

Of Scofield's stage acting, Richard Burton once said, "Of the 10 greatest moments in the theater, eight are Scofield's."

In addition to the role of Thomas More, for which he won an Academy Award, Scofield appeared in such films as Kenneth Branagh's Henry V, A Delicate Balance, and Quiz Show.

He was reportedly offered knighthood and turned it down saying, "It is just not an aspect of life that I would want. If you want a title, what's wrong with Mr.?"
