Fra' Bertie, Knights of Malta leader, dies

His Most Eminent Highness Fra' Andrew Bertie, the first Englishman to lead the Knights of Malta, has died, leaving the Order to select its new Grand Master.

The 13th century order was begun during the Crusades and is known for its relief operations in 120 countries, especially in the Middle East.

Fra' Bertie lead the order for 20 years and was remembered as the former school teacher had who "transformed the order, bringing a fresh approach to the humanitarian work, and extending it to some of the world's most inaccessible regions."
