Sir Daniel announces the 6th Annual 12th Knight Auction in An Tir

Sir Daniel of the Kingdom of An Tir has posted information on the 6th Annual 12th Knight Auction. This year the auction will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Societies.

Sir Daniel writes:

Many people speak often about Knightly Virtues in the SCA.

You will find a lot of folks who will wax freely and openly about Courage, Loyalty, Honor, and Courtesy.

And Prowesse, whether it is on the Field of Combat, at the Arts and Sciences Competition, or the heroic effort of manning gate into the pre dawn hours, is easily apparent in our Mighty Kingdom.

But what of the more difficult concepts? Those that we may not easily grasp in our modern mind, or that make us uncomfortable in our Society.

Of these I shall speak, Franchise, and the most difficult to talk about, Faith.

Franchise is a synonym for many other adjectives and virtues; Nobility, 'being a good host', Mercy, Largesse, Generosity...

Those words are much easier to understand for our 21st Century ear. And we have a better understanding of these concepts during *this* particular time of the year.

Franchise is what the 12th Knight Auction is about. A chance to give back to the world in a small way. To share in your own good fortune with those who may be struggling this year.

Many many times I'm asked why I set up the 'rules' for the 12th Knight auction to require the donations to come from or be sponsored by the Chivalry?

Frankly, the answer to that question has changed over the years, but nowadays I look on it as a pathway to establish a dialogue between the members of the populace and those men and women in the Kingdom that should stand most publically and unwaveringly for the ideals of Chivalry. Often we hear coarse mutterings of those who resent the Order of the Chivalry and their place in the Kingdom. Sometimes those hard feeling are well deserved. More often, in my experience, it is an outgrowth of a lack of understanding and common reference between the community of the Chivalry and the populace at large.

The 12th Knight Auction, in part, is meant to be a bridge. A connection between people who want to believe. A link between people who have "Faith" in common.

Faith in each other. Faith in their Kingdom. Faith in themselves and the rest of the people that make An Tir a Kingdom of conscience.

So I'd invite you to come join in our Brotherhood (and sisterhood::grin::) of Chivalry.

We are all capable of being Knightly, whether we have a white belt or not.

So, this year, the 12th Knight Auction will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

As mentioned before, Our Auctioneers will be Lady Bolverk and Sir Brand!

Thank you all so much for the donations already committed to this years auctions!
