Gwyntarian to Participate in Wonderful World of Ohio Mart Demo

Members of the Marche of Gwyntarian will be braving the October weather to participate in the 36th annual Wonderful World of Ohio Mart, October 3-6, 2002. Take a turn-of-the-century manor house, complete with medieval touches imported from Europe, add 100 juried craftsmen, throw in several thousand attendees and a renaissance theme and you have a perfect venue for an SCA demo. For a number of years, members of the Marche of Gwyntarian (Akron, Ohio) have participated in the Wonderful World of Ohio Mart at Stan Hywet Hall in Akron. Once the family home of the Seiberlings of Goodyear Tire Company fame, the Tudor Revival manor house was built between 1912 and 1915 and incorporated many original elements brought from Europe. The style of the house acts as a beautiful backdrop for many Renaissance-style activities including the annual Ohio Mart craft fair.

THL Katarina Peregrine is demo co-ordinator for Gwyntarian and has been liaison with Stan Hywet for several years. In that time, she has seen the participation of the group grow from minor local color to a major part of the entertainment for the fair. Last year, nearly 60 SCA members from Gwyntarian and other Northeastern Ohio groups pooled their talents for the demo, fighting, dancing, demonstrating A&S projects and sharing their historical research with attendees.
