"No wizards, no magic, no trolls" at Mermaids XVI

"We're basically just a bunch of adults playing dress-up. It's just that our dress-up is very coordinated and historically based," Lady Francesca told reporter Dylan B. Tomlinson of the Herald Times when he visited the recent Mermaids XVI at Camp Sindawa, Wisconsin.

Katherine d'Aquitaine winner of the Barony of the Far West Spring Coronet Tournament

Friar Jak reports that Lady Katherine d'Aquitaine was the winner of the Barony of the Far West Spring 2009 Coronet Tournament and will serve as Palatine Baroness. Lord Rothri deRoss placed second and will serve as Baron.

New Peers in Drachenwald

At Double Wars XXII, the greatest war in Drachenwald, was created a new Knight of the SCA. Master George FitzHume (OP) sat vigil and was then elevated to the Order of Chivalry on the field on Friday the 22nd of May by Their Majesties Marcus and Cecilia.

Eastern Elevations to the Order of the Pelican

Brigantia, Principal Herald, reports that at the Crown Tourney of Andreas IV and Gabriella II, held on May 9, 2009, A.S. XLIV, in the Barony of Carillion, Their Majesties invited Baron Duncan Mac na Ceardadh and Duchess Christence Heiseler to accept the accolade of the Order of the Pelican.

A group of Benedictine nuns from the Abbey of Viboldone haave been working tirelessly for months to unbind Leonardo da Vinci's Codex Atlanticus, a collection of writings and drawings bound into a single volume in the 17th century by sculptor Pompeo Leoni.

BBC's Channel 4 takes on Hastings

In mid-May, 2009, Channel 4 of the BBC premiered a two-part mini-series dramatizing the events leading up to the Battle of Hastings in 1066. The film, 1066: the Battle for Middle Earth, was directed by Justin Hardy who was interviewed for the Telegraph.

Barony of Seleone members help raise money for charity

Every year St. John's Episcopal Church in Ocean, Springs, MS holds a medieval festival to raise money for charity, and every year members of Biloxi's Barony of Seleone turn out to help by creating a medieval village. Harlan Kirgan of the Mississippi Press attended this year's event and reports on his visit.
