No one seems to remember why the French repressed the Cagot people for nearly one thousand years. Now Marie-Pierre Manet-Beauzac, the last of the bloodline, is attempting to uncover the truth about a persecuted people. Sean Thomas of the Independent has the story.

The Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna website features a 16th century mechanical, wooden doll which "plays the cittern, turns its head and seems to mince along with tiny steps while in fact running on wheels." (photo)

A rare Islamic rock crystal ewer is reclassified after being sold as post-industrial French antique for about UK£200. It will auction at Christie's London this October for more than UK£3 million. It is one of eight known extant rock crystal ewers from the period. (picture)
