On August 1, 2007, the home of Blair and Yvonne Wettlaufer, known in the SCA as Baron Brand Thorwaldsson and Baroness Briana, was destroyed by fire. While their Excellencies, their children and the family dog escaped unharmed, the house was reduced to ashes.

Call for Entries: 500 Knives

Lark Books, publisher of books dealing with "crafts, home decorating, woodworking, cooking, and outdoor living," is calling for submissions of images of "outstanding handmade knives, daggers, folding knives, tomahawks, swords, hunting knives, forged blades, and other implements for publication in a juried collection of international studio metalwork."

An elaborately-decorated mosaic floor dating to the 6th century has been discovered near the Israeli city of Palmahim. The floor is thought to have belonged to the dining area of a Byzantine villa.
