Historic cooking seminar to be held at Virginia Tech

Chairman Cynthia D. Bertelsen has announced that a seminar on historic cooking in Virginia will be held April 20-21, 2007 at the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Virginia. The event is titled "From Jamestown to the Blue Ridge: Cooking up 400 Years of Culinary History in Virginia."

Art conservation series to be presented in Cleveland

Baroness Katarina Peregrine reports that the Intermuseum Conservation Association will present a free six-part program to "introduce the public to the field of conservation and the wide range of materials and information that conservators work with, while highlighting care and handling of personal artifacts and family heirlooms."

The discovery of a 2nd century BCE coin in Cornwall may change how pre-Roman Britons are viewed. The pre-Roman Republic silver coin proves that active trading took place with the inhabitants of Britain before Rome conquered the island.

Lost Stonehenge altar stone found

Archaeologist Dennis Price believes he has located the lost altar stone from Stonehenge. First identified in the 17th century, the stone by architect Inigo Jones, the altar may now lie, in two sections, along a Wiltshire village road.

Forensic photography used to determine color of ancient textiles

Archaeologists at the Ohio State University are using crime scene techniques to try to determine the color of ancient fabrics. Forensic photography can use ultraviolet and infrared light to look for stains or fingerprints. In this case, they are seeking the original colors of prehistoric Indian fabrics.
