The United Nations cultural body UNESCO has warned that the Tower of London may be in danger of losing its World Heritage status, and has asked the United Kingdom to submit by 2007 a report on measures being taken to protect the Tower.

Andrea Hahn, a reporter for the Southern Illinoisan, visited the John A. Logan Museum in Murphysboro, Illinois recently for a real Renaissance faire experience including bawdy wenches, swordplay, songs and skits. The event was sponsored by the Fine and Bawdy Wenches, and included demos by the Medieval Combat Society.
Czech National Library to Digitize Rare Documents

A team of experts at the Czech National Library, housed in a converted Baroque monastery, is working to produce digitized copies of rare documents including medieval manuscripts. The digitalization technique developed for the project was so good that it has become the accepted standard for UNESCO.

A hoard of over 3,000 late Roman coins "made a sound like tinkling glass" when they poured from an overturned pot recently unearthed by archaeologists on a dig in Kent, England. The treasure is valued at over UK£10,000.

The vote to select the seven wonders of the world (constructed before 2000) continues. The list of prospective sites has now been narrowed to 21, and includes such historic landmarks as Stonehenge, the Great Wall of China and the Eiffel Tower. The public is invited to vote online.
