UNESCO Gives Warning on Tower of London Status

The United Nations cultural body UNESCO has warned that the Tower of London may be in danger of losing its World Heritage status, and has asked the United Kingdom to submit by 2007 a report on measures being taken to protect the Tower.

Wenches and Swordplay in Murphysboro, Illinois

Andrea Hahn, a reporter for the Southern Illinoisan, visited the John A. Logan Museum in Murphysboro, Illinois recently for a real Renaissance faire experience including bawdy wenches, swordplay, songs and skits. The event was sponsored by the Fine and Bawdy Wenches, and included demos by the Medieval Combat Society.

Czech National Library to Digitize Rare Documents

A team of experts at the Czech National Library, housed in a converted Baroque monastery, is working to produce digitized copies of rare documents including medieval manuscripts. The digitalization technique developed for the project was so good that it has become the accepted standard for UNESCO.

Passing of Baron Sir Tristen Von Halstern

Baron Sir Tristen Von Halstern (John Paul McLoughlin) died October 12, 2006 in Cincinnatti, Ohio at the age of 41. Sir Tristen's obituary is available to read online.

Sir Hugh the Little and Baroness Therasa Comins of the Kingdom of Lochac have announced the birth of their daughter Angelina Elizabeth Huett on October 13, 2006.

4th Century Roman Coins Spill Out in Kent

A hoard of over 3,000 late Roman coins "made a sound like tinkling glass" when they poured from an overturned pot recently unearthed by archaeologists on a dig in Kent, England. The treasure is valued at over UK£10,000.

New Royal Heirs in the Middle Kingdom

Duke Dag Thorgrim, inspired to valor by Lady Anne Marie De Garmeaulx, has won the Middle Kingdom Crown Tournament.

Welsh Barn Holds Secret: Medieval Dining Hall

Homeowners in Hengoed in Denbighshire, Wales were surprised to learn that a barn on their 21-acre farm contained a secret: the building was originally a rare, 15th medieval hall.

Louvre Atlanta opens at the High Museum

An unprecedented partnership between Paris' Louvre and Atlanta's High Museum of Art is bringing a number of works of art from the famous French museum to the American South. Many of these works have never before left France. On October 14, two exhibitions open:

His Grace Duke Boru Aelwyn, inspired by Her Excellency Deirdre O'Tierghnan, was victorious in the October 14, 2006 Crown Tournament fought in the Kingdom of Meridies.

Sir Ralph Bigod Victorious in Artemisia Crown Tourney

Morgan, Vicar of Loch Salann, reports that Sir Ralph (pronounced "Rayf") Bigod was the winner of the recent Crown Tourney in the Kingom of Artemisia. His Highness defeated Morgan D'Antioch in the finals.

New Seven Wonders of the World List Narrowed

The vote to select the seven wonders of the world (constructed before 2000) continues. The list of prospective sites has now been narrowed to 21, and includes such historic landmarks as Stonehenge, the Great Wall of China and the Eiffel Tower. The public is invited to vote online.

The "Vikings Come Home" to Michigan

Colorful costumes, bountiful food, horses, fencing, sword and shield and occasional cold drizzle were viewed and experienced during the Vikings Come Home event at the Kalkaska (Michigan) County fairgrounds. Elizabeth Kane Buzzelli of the Record-Eagle covered the event.

Archaeologists working on the site of a shopping center in Pizen, Bohemia are seeking a rare, Jewish cemetery dating to the 15th century. Researchers know that Jewish graves tend to be well-preserved and expect them to yield valuable information on the life of the community.
