Yorkshire Museum needs UK£2,000 to buy Richard III badge

In 2010, a metal detecting enthusiast from Stillingfleet, near York, England discovered a real treasure, a rare silver gilt badge in the shape of a boar linked to the supporters of King Richard III. Now the Yorkshire Museum hopes to raise UK£2,000 to buy the badge for its collection. (photo)

Godai Katsunaga winner of Known World Poetry Competition

Lady Katarzyna Witkowska reports that a winner of the Knowne World Poetry Competition was chosen at Pennsic 41. The winner was Lord Godai Katsunaga of Atlantia.

SCA, Inc. Announces the 50 Year Celebration in 2016 will be held in the Midrealm

After reviewing multiple event bids, the SCA Board of Directors has announced that the Fifty Year Celebration will be held in the Middle Kingdom.

As part of their Internet Medieval Sourcebook, Fordham University offers a section on medieval feudal oaths as part of a legal discussion of feudalism. Sources were created during the Middle Ages.

Whitechapel Road home of London's first black community

Parish records reveal that black citizens were in residence in Tudor England, especially after the beginning of the reign of Elizabeth I. The free people lived, worked and married in the city, in particular around Whitechapel Road in east London.

Trusty’s Hill reveals royal Scottish stronghold

Archaeologists working at Trusty’s Hill, near Gatehouse of Fleet in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, have unearthed an early medieval Pictish fort. Artifacts at the site were protected by the collapsed ramparts of the fort.

Havhingsten challenges modern Viking seamen

Tom Donkin of the BBC reports on the sailing of the Havhingsten, a 30 metres long reconstruction of a Viking ship, which sailed recently from Denmark to Germany. (video)

Hoard of gold coins found in crusader castle

"This is the first hoard of gold coins that we have in Israel that we can date to the Crusader period," said Oren Tal, director of the excavation of the 13th century Crusader castle of Arsur, where a hoard of 108 gold coins was recently discovered.

The Shire of Ad Flumen Caerulum invites you all to take part in fighting, archery, and games. For the fighters there will be the “Gugelhupf-Tourney”, for the archers an IKAC-shooting is planned. There will also be games at the tavern hall and an indoor space for children to play.

Jacob van Maerlant, popularly known as "father of all Dutch poets" is a famous dutch writer and poet of the 13th century (1230/1300), the first - or at least the most prolific - writer at the time to write in Dutch instead of Latin. His works include retelling of the arthurian legends, the history of Troy, a treaty on how to be a good ruler, a bestiary and more. We're taking his work as inspiration for this event.
