9th century Viking fortress found in Ireland

Eamonn Kelly, Keeper of Antiquities with the National Museum of Ireland, reports that after years of research the Viking fortress of Linn Duachaill has been located 45 miles north of Dublin.

"Iron ring" tops list of British tourist attractions

During the Middle Ages, Edward I built his "iron ring" of fortresses to protect his kingdom from unrest in Wales. Now, these castles are bringing tourists to the country in record numbers.

Teacher finds 17th century Bible

While searching for historic baptismal certificates to share with her students, Wisconsin teacher Debra Court stumbled across an old book. Further research has shown the book to be a hand-illustrated, German Bible dating to 1670. (video)

Two elevated to peerages in AEthelmearc

THLord Brandubh O'Donnghaile, Silver Buccle Herald for the Kingdom of AEthelmearc, reports that Their Majesties Duncan and Ilish, King and Queen of Aethelmearc, have chosen to elevate two of Their subjects to peerages at Their recent 12th Night celebration.

Tree rings link political turmoil to climate changes

Ulf Buntgen, a paleoclimatologist at the Swiss Federal Research Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape, believes political history can be read in the trees. He is the co-author of a study which links the "rise and fall of past civilisations and sudden shifts in Europe's climate."
