The great Fete des Bois will be held this year on October first at the Notre-Dame-de-la-joie camp, in Nicolet. Under reserve that we have the required marshals, we plan to offer a list for combatants, a field for archers and a list for fencers.

Devon discovery could "rewrite the history of the Romans in Britain"

The discovery of the largest Roman settlement ever found in Devon, England began when two metal detectorists found nearly a hundred Roman coins near Exeter. The find resulted in a geophysical survey which uncovered the large settlement.

Ancient farmstead may have supplied Roman troops

Archaeologists and volunteers in Sheffield, England have discovered the remains of a high-status Roman farm which, they believe may have provided "farm produce to the Roman supply network." The farm dates to the 2nd century.

14th century Byzantine tombs found in Tyre

Archaeologists have discovered five marble Byzantine tombs dating to the 14th century in the city of Tyre in southern Lebanon. (video)

Tudor House Museum reopens after restoration

A 15th century Tudor house in Southampton, England constructed by John Dawtry, builder of the Mary Rose, has reopened after nine years of restoration.

Wellcome Library brings Arabic medical manuscripts to the internet

Medical historians and students of illuminated manuscripts will want to take a look at the Wellcome Library's Arabic manuscript collection, which includes some of its most important texts of Arabic medicine.

Saxon logboat on display in Portsmouth

Visitors to the Portsmouth City Museum will be able to view the remains of a 6th century Saxon logboat found in Langstone Harbour in 2003. (photo)

New Yahoo persona development discussion group created

Gise of the Kingdom of Atlantia reports that she has created a new Yahoo discussion group for SCA persona development. The group is open to all SCA participants.

"Learning by living" in the SCA

SCA members in Casper, Wyoming (Kingdom of the Outlands) look forward to their annual event "Here There be Dragons," where they meet, share blows and "learn by doing." Elysia Conner of the Casper Journal visited with James Shipley, known in the SCA as Ronin, and has the story.

"Sophisticated" Roman village found at Northamptonshire construction site

Excavations of a construction site in Burton Latimer, in Northamptonshire, England, have unearthed nearly 40kg of Roman pottery, ironwork, and the remains of 30 Romans, leading experts to believe that the site was once a wealthy Roman village.
