Inscribed 12th century slate may have been used to ward off evil

Archaeologists have discovered a rare incised slate while digging at Nevern Castle in England. The slate dates to between 1170 and 1190.

Historical Book Club on Yahoo Groups

Lord Cú Allaidh Dona of Ealdormere reports his lady, Margurite, has created an Historical Book Club on Yahoo which urges members to "read a period book and review and discuss on the list."

Hampton Court Roundels Restored

Damaged by years of exposure to the weather, four of the most seriously deteriorated Hampton Court roundels have been restored and will be shown to the public.

Reliquary holding relics of saint found in Perperikon

Archaeologist Nikolay Ovcharov recently discovered a 5th century bronze reliquary containg a cross which held two fibers, either hair or textile, believed to have belonged to a saint.

Laurs and Ætta new Prince and Princess of the Summits

HL Brendan ap Llewelyn reports that Lord Laurs Surtr, inspired by Lady Ætta Surt, was the victor of the Principality of the Summits Coronet Tournament which took place September 17, 2011 in the Kingdom of An Tir.

Siegfried McClure elevated to Pelican at Atlantia 30 Year

Lady Rosanella Vespucci, Pursuivant Herald-at-Large for the Kingdom of Atlantia, reports that Their Majesties Cuan and Padraigin have inducted Lord Siegfried McClure into the Order of the Pelican.

14th century 'fede’ ring found in farmer's field

Metal detectorist James Goldswain found treasure in a farmer's field when he uncovered medieval silver gilt ring, known as a fede, or faith ring, near Bishopsbourne, England. (photo)

Gabrielle Elisabeth Chantereau elevated to Peer in Meridies

Mistress Odindisa Egilsdottir reports that Their Majesties Caspar and Cecilia, of the Kingdom of Meridies, offered elevation to the Order of the Pelican to Mistress Odindisa's protégé, The Honorable Lady Gabrielle Elisabeth Chantereau.

The sounds of Stonehenge

Visitors to Stonehenge never have the opportunity to experience the monument the way their early ancestors would have, but now BBC accoustic engineers have re-created the sound of a ritual held 4,000 years ago.

Costume Society of America is seeking papers for its Western Region 2012 Symposium to be held March 17-18, 2012 in Santa Clarita, California. The topic is: “Interpreting History through Costume.” Deadline is October 15, 2011.
