Her Majesty Arianwen, Queen of the West Kingdom, has announced that Sir Mikolaj de Bracy was the winner of the recent Principality of the Mists Coronet. He was inspired in his endeavors by Vittoria Aureli.

[MID] 3rd Annual Feast of Winter Nights

Velkomen!  Winter Nights or Old Norse Veturnætur was a Norse winter festival that was initially celebrated in pre-Christian Scandinavia. It was said by Snorri Sturluson that Winter Nights is one of the three most important festivals. This festival also marks the end of the summer and start of the win ter meaning the end of the harvest work and it was a time to celebrate.

Vikings raid southern Maryland

The Calvert Marine Museum in Maryland (USA) had some unusual guests when a company of Vikings - longship and all - sailed into port. The Longship Company sailed their ship, the Sae Hrafn, to the museum's boating basin for a day of education and entertainment.

SCA and MSR members extras for "Running Wilde"

On his blog, Unlocked Wordhoard, Richard Nokes, professor of medieval literature at Troy University, has posted video of a performance of Cædmon's Hymn, an early piece of West Saxon poetry, recorded by Bede in the 7th century.

16th century Scottish archway destroyed in vehicle crash

An historic, 16th century stone archway on the grounds of Scone Palace in Perthshire was destroyed recently when a van driven by a contractor crashed into it.

2nd century Roman waterwheel found in Cumbria

A team of volunteer archaeologists has discovered a rare Roman waterwheel dating to the first or second century C.E. near Cockermouth, an ancient market town in Cumbria, England. (photos)

Silver coins prove global trade in 8th century Germany

"The discovery of Arabic coins at the coast of the Baltic sea proves that there was global trade more than 1,200 years ago," said Greifswald historian Fred Ruchhoeft about the discovery of 82 Arabic coins in a northern German field.
