[DRA] Dancemoot VIII

Come join the Shire of Harplestane and Gaita on the 29th of January 2011 for a day of dancing at the latest gathering of our Dance Moot. Dance classes will be held, with opportunities to practice in the evening at a ball. For the non-dancers, there will be a selection of period games to keep everyone entertained.

Russian archaeologist Andrey Belinskiy believes he has discovered a "Caucasian Stonehenge" built by a Bronze Age civilization around 1600 BCE. The well-preserved ruins are located in the North Caucasus mountains.

Marian of Heatherdale receives Pegasus Award

Dame TSivia of the Kingdom of Ealdormere reports that Mistress Marian of Heatherdale (MKA Heather Dale) was a winner of a 2010 OVFF Pegasus Award for excellence in filking.

Medieval graves found in Siberia

Siberian archeologists are working to excavate a medieval cemetery, dating to the 11th century, near the River Angara in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia. Over 10,000 items such as jewelry, pottery and tools have been found.

Welsh students hope to find medieval Whitelands

Teacher Karl James Langford and his students are on a quest: to find the lost medieval village of Whitelands near Porthkerry in Wales.

Metropolitan Museum to host treasures of Khubilai Khan

New York's Metropolitan Museum will offer visitors a glimpse of the delights of 13th century China when it plays host to The Legend of Khubilai Khan: Chinese Art in the Yuan Dynasty, an exhibit of "lavish costumes, stunning paintings and priceless jewels."

Reading grave may hold medieval nun

Archaeologists working on a site next to Reading Minster in England have uncovered what they believe is the grave of a medieval nun, possibly dating to Saxon times.

TV show gives boost to declining castle

"Downton Abbey", a hit British TV series about the lives of a noble family on the eve of WWI, is having an effect far beyond television ratings. The show is set at the real-life Highclere Castle in Berkshire, England. The castle is deteriorating and it need of costly repairs.

Photographer E.F. Kitchen discusses the SCA for museum exhibit

Photographer and author E.F. Kitchen, who recently released Suburban Knights: A Return to the Middle Ages, has been chosen as the third artist to exhibit at the newly formed Central California Museum of Art. She spoke to reporter Joe Johnston of the San Luis Obispo Tribune.
