Barony of Nordskogen hosts medieval fair

Brits recognize Druidry as a religion

The British Charity Commission has accepted that druids' worship of natural spirits is a religious activity, making it the first pagan practice to be given official recognition as a religion.

10th century silver spur found in Russia

An elaborate silver spur, possibly belonging to a knight, has been found in Zelenogradsk, Russia, a town on the Baltic Sea. The Prussian town was a major commercial center known for its decorative arts in the 10th century.

Scientists establish that Yersinia pestis caused Black Death in Europe

An international group of scientists has produced a new study establishing Yersinia pestis as "the etiologic agent of modern plague." The study is especially interested in the second pandemic or the "Black Death" which ravaged Europe from 1347 until 1750.

Siberian mystery

On an island in the middle of a remote lake in Siberia, not far from the Mongolian border, lies the fortress of Por-Bajin. Por-Bajin is an archaeological site that dates to the 8th or 9th century. Its walls enclose 7 acres (2.8 hectares), a maze of about 30 buildings.

Decoding Ptolemy's map re-dates German cities

A group of experts from Berlin Technical University's Department for Geodesy and Geoinformation Science have cracked a 2nd  century map of Germany created by Ptolemy, re-dating many of the country's cities by 1,000 years.

Change in SCA email addresses announced

Tom Hughes, President,  SCA, Inc. and Franchesca Havas, CTO-PM, SCA, Inc., have announced changes to the Society's email system.

Mikolaj and Vittoria new Heirs of the Mists

Her Majesty Arianwen, Queen of the West Kingdom, has announced that Sir Mikolaj de Bracy was the winner of the recent Principality of the Mists Coronet. He was inspired in his endeavors by Vittoria Aureli.

[MID] 3rd Annual Feast of Winter Nights

Velkomen!  Winter Nights or Old Norse Veturnætur was a Norse winter festival that was initially celebrated in pre-Christian Scandinavia. It was said by Snorri Sturluson that Winter Nights is one of the three most important festivals. This festival also marks the end of the summer and start of the win ter meaning the end of the harvest work and it was a time to celebrate.
