"Magistri" to bring Latin to British schoolchildren

The Iris Project wants to bring the classics to British schools. To that end, the charity is sending "Oxford University undergraduates into primary schools in Blackbird Leys, Headington and Kidlington to teach the ancient language to nine and 10-year-olds."

Togaed students packed San Diego streets recently to compete in the San Diego Red Bull Chariot Races. Teams of three "gladiators" dragged chariots "through a tricky course filled with turns, roundabouts and sprints."

Archaeologists from the Alamut Castle Research Center in Iran believe they might have discovered the 13th century observatory of polymath Khawja Nasir ad-Din Tusi, who accepted the position of scientific advisor to the Mongols in 1256.

Archaeologists working at the site of a former Leper Hospital at St Mary Magdalen in Winchester, England believe the hospital may date to the 11th century, making it the earliest known hospital in Britain.

Barony asks readers nationwide to help raise funds

The Barony of Seleone is using a Barnes and Noble "book fair" to raise funds for the Barony and for their kingdom. SCA folk can participate, at no extra cost to the individual, by providing a code number to cashiers at any Barnes and Noble store nationwide. Barnes and Noble will donate funds based on the value of tagged purchases.
