Most members of the press who visit SCA events stop at the fighting. Recently Sam Friedman of the Kodiak (Alaska) Daily Mirror went further and investigated the cooks.

Experts suggest alternate site for Battle of Bosworth

For nearly the 500 years since it took place, experts have disputed the location of the Battle of Bosworth which saw the defeat of Richard III. Now a team of historians and archaeologists believe they have found the site.

Galileo relics found

Records report that, in the 18th century, three fingers, a tooth and a vertebra were removed from the tomb of Galileo Galilei and placed in a container. Since then, a finger and the vertebra have turned up, but the tooth and other fingers were still missing. Now, two fingers and a tooth have been found and are scheduled to be placed on display.

45th International Congress on Medieval Studies scheduled for May 2010

The 45th International Congress on Medieval Studies has been scheduled to take place in Kalamazoo, Michigan May 13-16, 2010. The Congress will feature "over 600 sessions of papers, panel discussions, round tables, workshops, and performances."

As the days grow shorter and the nights long and cold, the Sun seems to have died and left the world in darkness. Please join the ancient and glorious Barony of Loch Salann in celebrating the Winter Solstice and the return journey of the Sun. Activities will include dance class, an A&S heraldic display, High Court, a Grand Ball, and a Middle Eastern feast. Please note: Court will begin promptly at 2:30 PM so please plan accordingly.

Site yet to be determined, but will likely be in Davis County, UT (Gryphon's Lair).

Barwnes Bronwyn ferch Gwyn ap Rhys of the Kingdom of Northshield reports that her apprentice, Gospodin Ivan Matfeevich Rozansky, known to many as "Vanya," was placed on vigil by Their Majesties to contemplate elevation to the Order of the Laurel.

Medieval pilgrimage topic of the 2010 Sewanee Medieval Colloquium

Coordinators have announced that "Pilgrimage in the Middle Ages" will be the theme for the Sewanee Medieval Colloquium to be held April 9-10, 2010 at the university of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.

Calling AAA: Mons Meg has a flat

Historic Scotland experts were called in recently to assess damage to Mons Meg, the historic cannon on the ramparts of Edinburgh Castle, which has a broken wheel.

Medieval pine trees found in Norway

Norwegian scientists were surprised recently to find that dendrochronological dating showed fallen pine trees they were studying as part of climate research had died in the 14th century. Resin secreted by the dying trees is responsible for the "mummification."
