Signore Capitano Cosmano invites all who read these words to the Barony of L'Ile du Dragon Dormant's annual Fall Harvest/ Baronial Rattan Championship. The event will be a three-part affair, beginning at 10am on the day of the 24th of October, 2009. Saturday mid-morning to mid-afternoon, the Baronial Rattan Championship Tourney will take place. It will be run by the outgoing champion, Brien McShane.

The Incipient Shire of Ballachlagan invite one and all to an impromptu regional fighter practice on Sunday, November 1st. Practice will start approximately at 12:00 noon and will run until 6:00 p.m (Rain, shine, or snow). Our facility can accommodate both heavy and light fighters. The Vikings: History and Culture

William Short, SCA member and author of the book Viking Weapons and Combat Techniques will speak at the Fayetteville Free Library in Fayetteville, NY, on, October 29, 2009. The presentation will include a discussion of Viking fighting techniques and weapons.

[WES] Rapier Training Retreat

I will be holding a Rapier Clinic on the 14th and 15th of November at my residence in Delhi CA. The workshop will focus mostly on rapier/dagger and how to maximize your effectiveness with that form. The other focus will be on the psychology of historical fencing and how to control the fight.

Lady Odindisa Bragisdottir reports that Thorvaldr, inspired by Fiona, was the winner of the October 10, 2009 Crown Tourney in the Kingdom of Drachenwald.

"Missouri farmer" creates western martial arts school in Tokyo

Longtime SCA member Jay Noyes, a 40-year-old self-described "farmer from Missouri," had a dream. He wanted to bring the medieval combat he remembered from his days in the SCA to Japan, where he moved in 1991. To accomplish this, he created Avalon, a medieval history group, and started Castle Tintagel, a school for western martial arts in Tokyo. Edan Corkill of the Japan Times has the story.(photos)

Bones of unidentified saint found in Bulgarian cathedral

Archaeologists working at the site of a medieval church, part of the fortress of Perperikon in Bulgaria, have discovered a bronze cross bearing remains dating to the 5th-7th centuries C.E. "These are broken and decayed bones, most definitely of a saint," Professor Ovcharov said.
