Titus and Eilis New Heirs to the West

Megan reports that Titus Scipio Germanicus defeated Viscount Cyrus Aurelius of Oertha in the finals of the recent Crown Tournament in the Kingdom of the West. His Highness was inspired by Eilis ni Roibeard O'Boirne.

Melee in Russia

Video clips of several battles of a live-steel re-enactment group from Russia have been posted on YouTube. The clips depict armored combatants and combat archers taking part in a melee battle.

Remembrance of things past: the Coronation of Finn and Cyf in Ansteorra

Ansteorran Kingdom Historian, Robert Fitzmorgan, has continued to share memories of historic happenings in celebration of the Kingdom's 30th anniversary. One such memory is an account of the 1980's Coronation of Finn and Cyf written by Jehana Wyverna.

New Norse settlement found in Canada

Canadian archaeologists are thrilled by the discovery of the remains of a medieval structure, which they believe may be Norse in origin, near Nunavut on southern Baffin Island. If true, this will be only the second Viking structure found in the New World.

Utah kids follow “path to knighthood” at Ren Faire fundraiser

It was a fun trip to the past recently for kids in Logan, Utah as members of the local SCA group helped them learn about chivalry. The event was a fundraiser for the Whittier Center, where the group holds its meetings. David Felix of the Herald Journal reports.

Ripon limekiln is an "important find"

British archaeologists are excited about the discovery of a 500-year-old limekiln behind Ripon House in Leeds, England. Constructed in the mid-15th century, the kiln is one of the largest medieval structures ever found in England. (photo)

As a followup to 2008's very popular Costume Colloquium, a tribute to celebrated costumer Janet Arnold, a second colloquium has been scheduled for November 2010. Costume Colloquium II: Dress for Dance will also be held in Florence, Italy.

Henry VIII annulment letter revealed

On the 500th anniversary of the coronation of England's King Henry VIII, the Vatican has permitted scholars a look at the letter requesting an annulment of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. The Vatican denies any connection between the two events.
