Thanks to a UK£1.8m grant from regional development agency One North East, the Vindolanda Writing Tablets, the rich chronicle of Roman military in Britain, will be coming home to Vindolanda for "a rolling programme of displays" in 2012.

Every year the Shire of Hrafnafjordr in Alaska's Kenai Peninsula meets at the "Day of Blood" event to select the shire's heavy weapons champion. This year Joseph Robertia, a reporter for the Peninsula Clarion investigated to discover what the SCA was all about.
