13th century midden yields shoe soles

A batch of leather shoe soles dating from the 13th to 18th centuries was found in 2005 in a hollow tree trunk in an ancient trash dump in Lyon, France. The soles are well-preserved.

Medieval postcards subject of lecture in Syracuse

On March 24, 2009, Kathryn M. Rudy, a world-renowned art historian, will discuss the history of the postcard, tracing its roots to the 15th century. The lecture will take place at 5:30 p.m. in room 107 of Syracuse University's Hall of Languages.
