The goal of this SCA event is to recreate a late 15th century passage of arms, or 'pas d'armes' ([pah-darm]) as it would be said in French. You'll hear it spoken often as simply a 'pas'. We think it would be especially cool if everyone made a strong attempt to be dressed (or armed if you're fighting) in a style appropriate to the time period between 1400-1499. If you really want to focus, know that our target is 1480.

On January 22, 23 and 24, 2010, at The Escambia County Equestrian Center, 7750 Mobile Hwy., Pensacola, FL,32526, the GULF COAST FULL CONTACT JOUSTING TOURNAMENT will be held from 6-10 pm Friday Jan. 22, 12-4 pm Saturday Jan. 23 and again at 6-10 pm Saturday Jan. 23, and 1-4 pm Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010.

Greetings from the Shire of Montevale! We've uncovered a “piccola parte” (small piece) of Italy in our own backyard. Come join our fair shire at this idyllic site for a day of learning and friendship in the Italian tradition. A variety of Italian themed classes and others will be offered for your educational pleasure. Anyone willing to teach or merchant is welcome, as well as those who wish to learn and shop. There will dancing, entertainment, a gaming area, Bocce (lawn bowling), and a surprise or two. A children's area set aside,(no structured activities are scheduled).

War is upon us; are there any who will defend Outlands eastern boarders? We now have new and upcoming fighters and they will need instructions. These fighters are a bit green so they will need some gentle force to correct their errant ways. There is a $7.00 site fee plus a $3.00 non member fee and a $5 feast fee.

Philip Crummy, director of the Colchester Archaeological Trust, which in 2004 discovered the location of the Colchester, England Roman Circus, reports that a proposal has been created to mark the dimensions of the site with a "three dimensional representation on the site of the circus footprint."

In celebration of Rosh Hashana, the Jewish new Year, officials at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem are displaying the Nuremberg Mahzor, a 14th century collection of "handwritten Ashkenazi, or northern European, prayers and liturgical poems." The manuscript is considered the largest surviving text of its kind with only 7 of its 528 pages missing.
