Hungary's Year-Long Rennaisance Festival

The contemporary celebration marks 550 years since the celebrated Hungarian King Matthias brought Italian Renaissance thinkers and artists to Hungary and contributed to the development of humanist ideas in greater Europe.

[WES] Dyeing Workshop

The Textile Guild is hosting a Dyeing Workshop on Feb. 2, 2008 starting at 10:00 am. The workshop will be held in Santa Clara (near San Jose, 1 hour South of San Francisco). Mistress Seelie Brianna Sutherland will be teaching.

We will be running 3 dye baths: Indigo, Cochineal, and Turmeric (with one iron and one alum mordanting). The colors we will be achieving are: blues, reds, purples, yellows, and Location:

[AET] Siege of Harlech Castle

description:
All fighters and combat archers of these Sylvan Lands are called to the Barony-Marche of the Debatable Lands to besiege or defend the Castle! The year is 1404, and a brave English garrison defends Harlech castle from the assault of Welsh forces led by Owen Glendower.

Owen's victory allowed him to occupy Harlech as his base for the next 5 years, after which the English re-conquered this Edwardian stronghold. On April 5, 2008, the English shall once again defend Harlech against the Welsh attackers, and we shall see who triumphs this day. Location:

The sound of WAR drums are getting closer and our great armies of the Outlands are preparing for battle. In the quest to help our fellow warrior lass Mistress Royce the barony of al-Barran will be hosting a Snowball tourney for heavy and light weapons fighters in the spirit of fighting and melee.

The list will open at 10am on Sunday, 1/27 at Baatan Park and lay on will happen at 11am. It is a donation minimum of 3$ to enter the tourney. Come bring your best weapons of choice and let the fun begin. Location:

Last weekend, the Marche of Alderford, a local group in the Middle Kingdom, hosted a fighter practice and ad hoc silent auction to help a cancer patient in a neighboring group pay for her medical expenses. SCAtoday.net's Editor, THL Milica of Varna, was there and has posted a photo album.

The Shire of Port Oasis invites all lovers and fighters to the 12th Annual Tournament of the White Hart, February 22 -24, 2008, at the Cabell County 4-H Camp (6040 Booten Creek Road, Barboursville, WV, 25504).

The event will feature the traditional heavy weapons tournament emphasizing love and chivalry. Museum offers virtual tour of Roman road

A new exhibit at the Museum of the Diocletian Baths in Rome lets visitors take a virtual walk down the Via Flaminia, a major travel artery which was "built in the third century B.C.E. to connect Rome to Ariminum, today's Rimini, on the Adriatic sea."

"Black Death" poses a new threat

The plague, which once devastated the population of Europe, is on the rise again, according to experts. Around 100-200 cases are reported annually, but the disease is cropping up in new locations.
