SCA is a major consumer of rattan

The government of India has recognized that, as a crop, rattan can provide people living in poverty "with a sustainable way out of poverty, a stable source of income for growing range of micro, small and medium sized enterprises." An article on their website lists the SCA as a consumer of the crop.

Juliana Delamare to be elevated in AEthelmearc

THL Matilda Bosvyle de Bela Acqua reports that at a recent Royal Court, Their Majesties Christopher and Morgen of the Kingdom of AEthelmearc offered elevation to the Order of the Laurel to her Ladyship, Juliana Delamare in recognition of her skill in the art of weaving.

There will be a big parking lot, so park there, then head into the building with the bright blue on the front. That is the Commons. Once you are inside the Commons, head to the right, past the mailboxes. When you reach the end of the mail boxes, take a left down that hallway and you will be on site! Join us at the Canton of Hawks Haven's annual Turkey Tourney on November 1, 2008! One turkey will be awarded to the top belted fighter and one to the top unbelted fighter. Finally, you can bring home a turkey that will pay tribute to your heroism and martial prowess!

Garum helps date Pompeii volcanic eruption

Garum, a pungent, fish-based seasoning, used in Roman cooking is being used to help precisely date the volcanic eruption that buried the city of Pompeii.

Re-enactor photo used to make point in Brisbane Times

A photo of armored combat was used in the October 10 online edition of the Brisbane (Australia) Times to make a legal point. According to the lead line in the article, "Queenslanders can now challenge one another to duels but face jail for leaving their children unsupervised."

Leeks brought to Wales to flavor Roman stew

Andrew Dixey, Estate Manager for National Museum Wales, has created a Roman garden designed to help visitors understand the life of Romans in Wales. Among the plants brought to the country by the Romans was the garden leek, the unofficial symbol of Wales.

Several months of excavation have unearthed the remains of a second century Roman villa in Budapest, Hungary, thought to be one of the earliest in the country.

Syr EikBrandr Solgyafi Naeturaudi and Baroness Runa Eikbrandswif ascended to Crown Prince and Princess of the Middle Kingdom Saturday after Syr EikBrandr won the Midrealm's fall Crown Tournament in the Barony of Flaming Gryphon.

An article in a Royal Society journal suggests that modern British mice may have "Viking" genetics - or at least may have traveled with the Scandinavian invaders on their journeys of conquest.

Stonehenge dating controversy continues

New research on Stonehenge finds that it is actually older than previously believed. A recent excavation headed by Mike Parker-Pearson, professor of archaeology at Sheffield University, finds the monument to date to 3000 BCE and to have connections to cremation of the dead.

Prop and costume sale at New Jersey theatre October 25, 2008

On Saturday October 25, 2008, the Shakespeare Theatre Of New Jersey will open its doors for a sale of costumes, props and masks in an effort to raise money for the Theatre's educational and artistic programs.
