Turkish archaeologists found a 2,000 year old lighthouse at the ancient Roman port of Patara. Built in the time of the Emperor Nero, it may be the oldest such structure that remains intact.

The Magna Carta will be the focus of this year's Medieval Conference at Pennsylvania State University March 28-29, 2008. The conference will "examine various groups and institutions of that society, in attempt to fill in the background of the Great Charter: the world of King John, and additional sessions will deal with teaching about Magna Carta and its time period.

A plan to regulate antique firearms in New York City may have repercussions for re-enactors and museums who use black powder weapons. If passed, owners of these weapons would be required to submit to the same licensing rules as for other firearms.

The Barony of Calafia wishes to cordially extend an invitation to the entirety of the Knowne World to join us once again for a weekend of fighting, frolicking, and revelry in the shade of the beautiful oak trees of Potrero.
Potrero War
This year we have added an extra day to the Potrero War experience. Gates will open at 10am Thursday for those who choose to spend an extra day with us and at 8am Friday for all other attendees. Attending Thursday will cost an additional $5 for adults and children over the age of 13, but only an additional $2 for children between the ages of 6-12. Children under the age of 5 continue to be guests of the Barony. There will be combat scenarios or tournaments on Friday.
