The potty humor of the Middle Ages

In an article for the Chronicle for Higher Education Evan R. Goldstein reviews On Farting: Laughter and Language in the Middle Ages by Valerie Allen, a new work that looks at the use of low humor in literature of the period.

Researcher discovers 6th century Japanese irrigation system

A retired civil engineer has written a report on a 6th and 7th century irrigation system in the in Osaka Prefecture. Kazuo Takatsu spent 15 years on the report, which chronicles a system to collect rain water.
