Deep sea salvagers from Tampa-based Odyssey Marine Exploration may have retrieved the "richest sunken treasure ever discovered: hundreds of thousands of colonial-era silver and gold coins worth an estimated US$500 million from a shipwreck in the Atlantic Ocean."

Terrell and Adrienne Cotterell of Shelby, Montana have enjoyed life in the SCa for ten years, he as a fighter and she as a Middle Eastern dancer. Reporter Kim Skornogoski of the Great Falls (Montana) Tribune spoke to them before the Shire of Windegate's Whipping Winds event.

Ragnaroc V

Ragnaroc is back! The event will be held at the fabulous Camano Island State Park, about halfway between Seattle and Vancouver, BC. Despite the island description, no ferries or bridges are required to get to the site.

The Shire of Misty Highlands is proud to host a day long of learning at the AEthelmearc AEcademy on June 23, 2007 at Salem International University, 234 West Main Street, Salem , WV . In addition to the many A&S classes you would expect to find, we are seeking classes on "SCA Life". There is also plenty of field for martial classes, so ready your weapons and skills. Teacher registration is now open & you may register here until June 8. Watch for class listings on the AEcademy website here. There will be an A&S display and a scribal backlog display with prizes, so bring your finest projects to share. Defenders of Sherwood VII

The Shire of Misty Highlands once again challenges all to join us for battle and competition in the forests of Sherwood. This year Robin and his band will boldly face the Sheriff's forces in scenic Sherwood Forest, where they will attempt to best each other in contests of rapier, archery and full armored engagements on the field with combat archery. Of course the merry men will also offer thrown weapons, an A&S display, a scribal tea, rapier woods battles, plus a medieval Italian feast created by Don Anias Fenne. Join us as we celebrate the mighty summer and all its glory! We will start with a Rapier Tournament to test the mettle all those who wield steel! This will be a "Defend Your Honor" tourney and you better come with your best wit for fun. This will be followed with a Heavy Combat Tournament that will test the endurance of all who dare to enter. Privateers' Gathering

Earliest dental prosthesis found in Roman grave

Archaeologists have discovered in the grave of an unidentified Roman woman a gold wire used to hold together a set of artificial teeth. The dental prosthesis is believed to be the earliest such device ever discovered.

Siege Cooking Competition at Lilies War

HL Gwen A'Brooke has announced that there will be a Siege Cooking Competition at this year's Lilies War. The competition will take place on Sunday June 10 at 8:30 a.m. Registration is open until June 5, 2007.

Regional Fight Practice

The Shire of Sterlynge Vayle invites our friends and neighbors to join us for our weekly fight practice and picnic in Otsiningo Park on Sunday, July 15, 2007. This will be a very relaxed get together for fighting, eating and socializing with our friends.

We will begin gathering around noon, and will go until people are tired of fighting. Please come join us to share stories and swordplay. If you know of anyone who is interested in checking out SCA fighting for the first time, this will be the perfect opportunity. Please bring any loaner gear that you may have for newcomers. This will be in a beautiful public park, so there will probably be people wandering over to watch the fighting and maybe ask some questions. Garb is strongly encouraged. We will provide meats to cook on the grill – hamburgers, hot dogs, and sausages, as well as rolls, fixings, and ice. Please bring your picnic gear, a dish to pass, and drinks. Location:

Plato's Birthday Celebration and Champions Tournamen

Join Their Excellencies of Citadel and the Medici family at their summer estate and winery, La Vina, in the sunny southern Outland's countryside as they celebrate Plato's Birthday and have their annual Baronial A&S Competition and Collegium.

The fabulously beautiful site has a stage, two acres with grass, and trees with a gorgeous view of the Mesilla Valley and the Franklin mountains on the historic Don Juan Onate Trail. Let the acres of grape vines and fresh air take you to the countryside of Florence where we will choose our Baronial A&S Champion, Visiting A&S Champion, and Science Champion so everyone is welcome to enter. The competition will occur in the morning and the collegium with symposiums will be in the afternoon with scientific oddities and surprise entertainments in the evening. There will be rapier, heavy, and heraldic fighting so bring your armor and weapons, too. Enjoy the traditional Italian pastoral luncheon by Mistress Bahiyyah and an Italian feast by Mistress Leah during the evening of Bacchanalian festivities. Location:

Melee Madness

Madness in the form of battle fever has once again descended upon the Barony of Endless Hills! The Barony invites all to join us as Melee Madness returns with the classic Warlord tourney and five man melee team combat. Enjoy a day of melee combat in preparation for Pennsic.

A Gold Chain Tournament will be hosted by Earl Sir Yngvar the Dismal and Sir Murdoch Bayne. For the fencers, there will also be a fencing "Armor-as-Worn" tourney and a Warlord tourney. For both the heavy and fencing Warlord tournaments all are invited/requested to bring along something to place in the Warlord's treasure chest. Sir Murdoch humbly asks that participants in the Warlord’s tournament refrain from using duct tape or pads as their submission to the Warlord chest. Torch lit fencing will also be held, weather permitting. In addition to heavy fighting and fencing, there will also be archery, youth combat and thrown weapons available.
