Their Majesties of the Outlands have offered THL Chinua al-Naran admittance to the Order of the Chivalry. Chinua will sit vigil at Estrella War XXIII.

Free Library of Philadelphia introduces digital manuscript collection

The Free Library of Philadelphia has announced a new digital collection of medieval and Renaissance manuscripts available to be viewed on its website. The collection includes both complete manuscripts and single leaves with information about the work.

Chivalry in the modern world

The website Chivalry Today offers discussions of the necessity of a Code of Chivalry in a 21st century world. The site includes online discussions and podcasts on a number of topics such as "Influential People," "Women and Chivalry" and "Today's Heroes."

Saint Nicholas honored by exhibit in Bari, Italy

An exhibition of artwork depicting Saint Nicholas will be on display in Bari, Italy, the saint's resting place. Saint Nicholas, Art Masterpieces in East and West is jointly organized by the Bari Municipality, the district of Puglia, the Bari University, the local Department of Archaeology, the Archbishopric of Bari and the metropolitan church of Saint Nicholas in Bari, and will be on display until May 6, 2007.

White Shield 20th Anniversary

All are welcome to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Barony of Darkwood. We will be celebration at our annual Whiteshield tournament and Feast. This should a day of glory and splendor. The tournament will start with a Bar Room Brawl, so bring your most creative weapons. The tournament will be a standard double elimination. The List will open at 9:30, Armor Inspection should start at 10:00am with Invocation starting at 10:30 with the melee following. Third Annual SCA Dance Workshop

The Shire of Cathanar invites you to a day of dancing, both traditional Medieval Country Dance and Middle Eastern Dance.

The Workshop will be held at the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship Hall in New Bern, NC, beginning at 10 AM and running until 5 PM. Instruction will be tailored to the skill level of the participants, so don't be shy if you've never done this before. If you're an old hand at it, not only can we use your experience to help others along, but we also plan to include more advanced dances in the afternoon session. Combative Arts Retreat

description:
You are invited to attend the Chateau de Camville's first (hopefully of many) Armored Combative Arts Retreat! This weekend long event will be held at Chateau de Camville, under the soaring pines and beautiful landscapes in the Shire of Mountains Gate (El Dorado County)! The concept of our first Armored Combative Arts Retreat is to give the participants a chance to really immerse themselves in the study of Armored Combat as practiced by the SCA and other WMA groups. We will be working from the ground up, focusing on Balance, Footwork, Timing, Aspects of Attack and Aspects of Defense. The event begins on Friday afternoon and concludes Sunday afternoon. The format for the event will be composed of classes (in and out of armor), drills, and sparring. There will also be a mock tournament (or Pas d' Arms) on Sunday for those who wish to participate. Two new shires are in the process of being recognized by the Society for Creative Anachronism: Bosenberg in Southwest Australia and the Shire of Radburne in Dubbo. Both groups are in incipient status.

Medici mystery reinvestigated

A new study of the deaths of Francesco de' Medici and his wife Bianca Cappello seems to suggest that the couple died of acute arsenic poisoning rather than from malaria as is generally believed.

Devil's Music in the Vatican

Rock and roll music will represent Hell in a new opera based upon Dante's medieval epic, The Divine Comedy. The composition by Monsignor Marco Frisina will premiere in Vatican City.

Lord Yehoshua ben Hayyim haLevi, founding seneschal of the Shire of Ma'ale Giborim in Israel, reports that the shire just held an event to honor Shushan Channuka, or 8th Night.

Over 20,000 hope for shot at Winter Solstice in Ireland

27,000 people applied recently for a chance to celebrate the Winter Solstice in the Stone Age tomb in Newgrange, Ireland. Only 100 won the honor. Andrew Bushe has the story.

The website History.uk.com offers "old time food for the modern kitchen" with a site dedicated to providing recipes for authentic tasting food and drink. Most recipes are from the Middle Ages or Renaissance with a few Roman titles thrown in for good measure.

Plan of St. Gall online

A website has been created to showcase the Plan of St. Gall (Codex Sangallensis 1092), "the earliest preserved and most extraordinary visualization of a building complex produced in the Middle Ages."
