The Shire of Stormsport welcomes all to the Annual Spring Bears Event on February 24th, 2007.
Activities this year will include heavy weapons as per
normal, embroidery/blackwork classes, an Italian
themed set of children events and medieval Dance.
This year's event will be held at the Erie Day School,
of 1372 West 6th Street, Erie PA 16505. With the site
opening at 9am am and closing at 9 pm.

Dante Allegheri, the Italian poet whose work, The Divine Comedy, is almost required reading for SCAdians, has been depicted in the past with a classical profile, his nose straight. A team of forensic archeologists is challenging that picture with a reconstructed face of the poet, featuring a flattened nose.

The British Museum purchased a set of gold, garnet enchrusted Anglo-Saxon sword fittings. They were discovered by a metal detectorist in 2002 near Market Rasen, Lincolnshire. The fittings are a unique find for Anglo-Saxon England.

Chinese archaeologists are confounded by a group 10 huge rings at the site of the tomb of the country's only empress, Wu Zetian. The rings, ranging from 30 to 40 meters in diameter, were discovered when aerial photos were taken.

A new report from the Mayo Clinic, reported by Science Daily, shows how researchers at the Clinic used data-mining techniques to discover new cures from ancient texts. The reports cites the anti-bacterial properties of the Atun tree as discussed by Dutch herbalist Georg Eberhard Rumpf in his mid-17th century work Ambonese Herbal.

This is an all-children's event. All activities are for children, or are in support of children. There will be Youth Combat, Youth Archery, Youth Thrown Weapons, and Youth Rapier (pending the final OK on the rules). There will be a Youth A&S competition. I am trying to work out space for lots of classes and activities. If there is need for support classes (i.e. classes for training of Ministers of Minors, training Youth Marshals, Page Academy, etc) I will try to supply space.
