In the summer of A.S. XL1 the Cairnfell Surveying Expeditions of the Baronies of Innilgard and Stormhold set forth. The aim was to determine whether the region fell under the domain of his Excellency Baron Innilgard or his Excellency Baron Stormhold.

In the course of their endeavors they were set upon by bandits and wild men of this remote region of the realm. After a series of skirmishes in which the forces of the two Barons acquitted themselves with a degree of competence, they were met by combined forces of bandits and local hill men. Location:

The Shire of Anglespur, the Jewel of the East, is pleased to host this year’s King’s and Queen’s Bardic Championship! Bards, Singers, Musicians and Storytellers from all over the East Kingdom are invited to come and share their talents in this illustrious competition.

The Bardic Competition is to be divided into three rounds. Please note that the theme of the event is "Heroes of the Empire," and Their Majesties wish to hear songs, tales, and poems of the East Realm's greatest men and women. The Shire of Plattefordham will be holding our 12th night (conveniently) on the 12th of January at St Stephan's Church, 4700 S. Poplar St, Casper WY 82601.

Site opens at 10AM and closes at 10PM and is very dry. Site fee for adults is $7 and $7 for feast, as well. Child (10 and under) site is free, $3 feast fee for children 5-10. A $3 NMS applies to all adult non-members.

Stonehenge tunnel plan scrapped

The fear that increased traffic might damage the historic site has led English Heritage to cancel a plan to build a tunnel under Stonehenge.

"Domus del Chirurgo" sheds light on Roman medicine

For the past 17 years, archaeologists have worked at the site of the Domus del Chirurgo, the House of the Surgeon, the home of a 2nd century Roman doctor in Rimini, Italy. Among the discoveries: "the largest find of surgical instruments anywhere."

The Archaeology Data Service (ADS) has announced the publication of 50 years of their Medieval Archeology publication on their website.

Roman barge to be salvaged in Cologne

Portions of a Roman barge, dating to as early as the 2nd century C.E., will soon be removed from its muddy resting place according to archaeologists. It may well be the "oldest Roman transport vessel left in central Europe."

DNA and linguistic studies show Liverpool's Viking heritage

Researchers believe that the area around Liverpool, England was a Viking settlement. Their findings are based on original surnames and DNA evidence.

"Holy Blood and the Holy Grail" author dies at 64

Author Richard Leigh, best known as one of the co-authors of The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail, has died in London at the age of 64. The nonfiction work proposed that Jesus Christ fathered a child and that the bloodline continues.

Roman feast gear found in London well

A 4th century banqueting set which once belonged to a rich Roman family was discovered recently in a well during excavation in London. The set included 19 metal vessels. (photos)
