[ANT] Seagirt Yuletide

We bring you tidings of Yule in the Barony of Seagirt, which will happen on Saturday, December 8th. There are many changes this year, least of which is the location.

Yule will be held at Luxton Hall, at the fairgrounds in Langford, BC, a suburb of Victoria (directions will appear later on the website). Also, to celebrate the 50th birthday of our own Baron James, there will be a Baron's Birthday Tourney held that day, as well as a Games Tourney (for those who don't fight but wish to compete for His Excellency's entertainment!). We will also have a Feast, a Pageant, Tavern, Horse Racing, Cleavage Contest for the fairer sex (Baron James has stated that male cleavage is not fair) and many other fine activities. Location:

Let it be known that on the twenty-third of February, there will be a Faire to celebrate the arts and artisanal crafts, and this faire will be held in the lord baron's holding known by many as the Pfaelzer Schloss. The lord Baron will be there to welcome all and sundry to this demesne, but especially those who wish to share their and display their myriad woorkes.

[WES] Vinhold's All Hallows Feast

Please come and join us for a gastronomic tour of late-period Spain, Galacia and Portugal. We will be holding a sotelties competition in the theme of 'Birds of the Knowne World', a cordials competition, and a competition to select the next Bard of Vinhold consisting of three pieces (a documented piece, a piece in documented style and a Masterwork of the performers best)!

Taiko drumming in Pittsburgh

The Asian Studies Center of the University of Pittsburgh will present Japanese Taiko Drumming on Saturday October 13, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. in the Assembly Room, WPU. The concert is free and open to the public.

Collegium Cantorum to present concerts in D.C. area

Collegium Cantorum, a musical group which "specializes in 'large forms for small choirs' and draws most of its repertory from the masterworks of medieval and Renaissance Europe" will present a pair of concerts in the Washington, D.C. area November 3-4, 2007.

Modern technology may help to locate "Lost Colony"

Researchers such as George Ray hope that hard work and Google Maps may yet discover the fate of settlers of the "Lost Colony" of Roanoke in North Carolina, abandoned in the late 1500's.

75 medieval graves found in Novgorod

Russian archaeologists have discovered 75 graves dating from the 15th to 18th centuries C.E. in Veliki Novgorod. The experts hope that more tombs will be found.

The Koninklijke Bibiliotheek, under the guidance of Jos Biemans, Special Professor of Medieval Manuscript Studies, has created a website to house and make accessible over 6000 medieval manuscripts currently in the Netherlands.

The city of Leicester in England offers an interactive map that allows visitors to explore different aspects of the historical city by clicking on landmarks on the map. The map includes access to the Roman Centre, Medieval Centre, Castle and Newark Liberty and the Modern Centre.

A new book by French journalist Marcel Gay claims to prove that Joan of Arc was a French royal who did not die on the stake but was rescued by the English.

No blood was spilled during the swordplay at a recent event held by the Barony of Ponte Alto in Prince William Forest Park, Falls Church, Virginia, despite a pronouncement by the Queen of Atlantia. Dan Zak of the Washington Post has the story.

Duchess Katerina O'Callaghan, Acting Kingdom Media Officer for the Kingdom of Atenveldt, has announced that the four principal kingdoms involved in the Estrella War XXIV have signed the Estrella War Treaty.

Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna Exhibits "The Late Titian and the Sensuality of Painting"

Soon a new exhibition will be on display at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. The Late Titian and the Sensuality of Painting begins at October 18, 2007 and runs until January 6, 2008.
