Several albums of paintings of birds dating to the 16th century have been "rediscovered" by Roberta J.M. Olson, art curator for the New York Historical Society. The works were painted by French artist Pierre Eskrich, considered to be the inspiration for James Audubon.

Online pre-registration for individuals for Pennsic XXXV has been extended until June 15, 2006. Mail-in pre-registration ends May 15, 2006. There has also been an increase in fees due upon arrival.

Best known for her book Fabulous Feasts: Medieval Cookery and Ceremony, Madeleine Pelner Cosman has died at the age of 68 in California. She was also the founder of the Institute for Medieval and Renaissance Studies at City College of New York and the organizer of Manhattan's annual Cloisters medieval festival.
